Gifts in Wills FAQs

When is a good time to make a Will?

As soon as possible, no matter your age or circumstance. By making a Will now, you can have peace of mind that your loved ones know your wishes and you have remembered your favourite charities.

Your gift will be used wherever the need is greatest, to help families grow a better future and be free from poverty.

Do I need to let you know I’ve put Ripple Effect in my Will?

Knowing you’ve remembered Ripple Effect in your Will can help us plan better for the future and make sure we don’t ask you again. We appreciate this is a private matter however and we completely understand if you would rather not.

Can I save tax by leaving a gift in my Will to Ripple Effect?

Gifts to UK registered charities are exempt from Inheritance Tax. We highly recommend you speak to your solicitor for all advice on tax issues.

Are there different types of Gifts I can leave?

There are three types of gift you can leave in your Will.

A share of your estate or ‘residuary legacy’ is the whole or a percentage of the remainder of your estate once all other legacies and costs have been paid. This will make the biggest difference to our work as it will maintain its value over time. Even just 1% of your estate will help struggling families to change their lives forever. This is a great way to provide for your family and friends and also pass on what you have to help families grow a better future.

A specific sum or a ‘pecuniary legacy’ e.g. £10,000. This type of gift may decrease in value over time due to inflation.

A specific item of value such as antiques or jewellery.

Please remember to seek advice from a solicitor when deciding what type of gift to leave Ripple Effect and when drawing up or amending your Will.
