Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Big Give Christmas Challenge?

The Big Give Christmas Challenge is the UK’s biggest match-funded campaign. For seven days, Ripple Effect supporters can have their donations doubled and, in doing so, can make twice the difference this Christmas to farming families in Burundi.

To take part and have your donation doubled, you must donate to Ripple Effect's campaign page on the Big Give website between midday Tuesday 2 December to midday Tuesday 9 December. Donations made via the Big Give website during the campaign period will then be doubled by our Big Give champion, the Reed Foundation, and a generous group of Ripple Effect supporters.

You can learn more about the campaign on the Big Give website.

How can I double my donation?

To take part and have your donation doubled, you must donate through Ripple Effect's campaign page on the Big Give website during the campaign period of midday Tuesday 2 December to midday Tuesday 9 December.

Donations made via the Big Give website during the campaign period will then be doubled by our Big Give champion, the Reed Foundation, and a generous group of Ripple Effect supporters.

Please note that donations made offline (such as via BACS transfer, by cheque in the post, or by phone) or on other websites (including the Ripple Effect website outside of the Big Give Christmas Challenge campaign period) cannot be doubled, but will still be hugely appreciated.

When can my donation be doubled?

The Big Give Christmas Challenge campaign runs from midday Tuesday 2 December to midday Tuesday 9 December.

Who is doubling my donation?

Donations made to the Big Give Christmas Challenge will be doubled by our Big Give champion, the Reed Foundation, and a generous group of Ripple Effect supporters known as Pledgers.

The Reed Foundation and Pledgers have agreed to match up to £65,000, which would then be doubled. With your support, an amazing £130,000 could be raised to help support parents in Burundi to put nutritious food on their children's plates, helping to prevent malnutrition and stunting. Once the £65,000 target has been reached, donations will no longer be doubled but will still be enormously appreciated.

What impact will my donation have?

Donations made to the Big Give Christmas Challenge could help support parents in Burundi to put nutritious food on their children's plates, helping to prevent malnutrition and stunting.

With your support, farming families could learn climate-smart agriculture practices - simple, practical techniques like composting, mulching, and inter-cropping that help the soil retain water and nutrients. These sustainable farming practices protect crops against drought and erosion, reduce dependence on chemical fertilisers, and lead to stronger harvests and fuller plates for their children.

Your donation could provide parents with drought-resistant seeds for fruits and vegetables that grow throughout the year, even as the climate changes. Families gain a more stable source of nutritious food, ensuring children grow up healthy and strong. Each harvest also produces more seeds to share with neighbours, creating a ripple of resilience across whole communities.

Families could be supported to set up kitchen gardens close to home, making it easier to harvest fresh, nutritious food each day. This helps children stay healthy and gives parents more stability and support. As their gardens begin to thrive, families share seeds and simple techniques with neighbours, passing on the progress so others can grow nutritious food at home too.
