Having enough water for both crops and family use can be an issue for African farmers, particularly as weather patterns have become more uncertain due to the climate crisis. Families working with Ripple Effect learn to build and maintain a rainwater catchment tank. These clever storage areas capture rainwater runoff, usually from the roof of the house, directing any surplus into the tank. This means that no matter when the rainy season comes, precious water is available.

Before we learned about rainwater harvesting, I would spend over an hour collecting water – but now it is right here! Also, during the dry season our animals always need a lot of water, so water collecting became time consuming. Now that has reduced as I have water all the time.
