Choosing your gift
There are three types of gift you can leave in your Will to support our work
A share of your estate (called a residuary legacy) is the whole or a percentage of the remainder of your estate once all other legacies and costs have been paid. This will make the biggest difference to our work as it will maintain its value over time. Even just 1% of your estate will help families to change their lives forever. This is a great way to provide for your family and friends and also pass on what you have to help others build a good life.
A specific sum (called a pecuniary legacy) e.g. £10,000. This type of gift may decrease in value overtime due to inflation.
A specific item of value such as antiques or jewellery. Once you have decided what type of gift you would like to leave in your Will, please ask your solicitor to use one of the following suggested wordings.
Suggested wording for a Residual gift in a Will:
“I give the whole or a share (state the percentage) of the residue of my estate to Ripple Effect (Registered Charity No. 299717) of The Old Estate Yard, Newton St Loe, Bath, BA2 9BR, for the general purposes of Ripple Effect for its charitable purposes, and I declare that the receipt of their Treasurer or any other proper officer of Ripple Effect shall be sufficient discharge to my executors.”
Suggested wording for a Pecuniary gift in a Will:
“I give free of tax to Ripple Effect (Registered Charity No. 299717) of The Old Estate Yard, Newton St Loe, Bath, BA2 9BR, the sum of £ (amount in figures, amount in words) for the general purposes of Ripple Effect for its charitable purposes, and I declare that the receipt of their Treasurer or any other proper officer of Ripple Effect shall be sufficient discharge to my executors.”
Suggested wording for a specific item:
“I give to Ripple Effect (Registered Charity No. 299717) of The Old Estate Yard, Newton St Loe, Bath, BA2 9BR, (write here what you wish to give) for the general purposes of Ripple Effect for its charitable purposes, and I declare that the receipt of their Treasurer or any other proper officer of Ripple Effect shall be sufficient discharge to my executors.”
