Starting a ripple for the future
I first became a volunteer Ambassador in Rutland where I lived and told the Ripple Effect (previously Send a Cow) story to church congregations, schools, Rotary & WI groups, Gardening Clubs, local businesses - anyone who would listen!
In 2007, I went to Uganda on a self-funded visit - an amazing experience where I saw for myself how the legacy of those first dairy cows from the UK in 1988 has transformed the lives of countless, orphans and people living with disabilities.
On my return, I encouraged my husband, Martin, that we should support a project, along with some friends, and we were privileged to visit this project in Rwanda in 2011. On our return we decided to include a legacy to Ripple Effect (then Send a Cow) in both our Wills.
During 2012, Martin was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, but as his legs were still strong, we wanted one last African adventure together. We went to Ethiopia with 6 close friends; first exploring the scenic and cultural sites in the north and then visiting projects in the south. This was a challenging, but life-enhancing experience for us both, with the added poignancy of knowing Martin’s legacy would soon give others the life-changing opportunity to leave poverty behind and help them develop skills, confidence and self-respect.
Life is full of challenges, but for me knowing Martin’s legacy - and mine one day - is giving new hope to families in my beloved Ethiopia is a comfort and joy. I took my family to Ethiopia in 2015 so they could see for themselves just what a difference our support makes to whole communities. As a fellow supporter, I do hope you will consider leaving a gift in your Will of any size to Ripple Effect – it doesn’t have to be a lot and I’ve seen the difference it can make first-hand.
Please don’t put if off until tomorrow, but make sure your loved ones and the causes close to your heart benefit when you die, then your legacy too will live on and on...
