This weekend (3rd and 4th August) 50 Ripple Effect fundraisers, clad in vibrant green jerseys, will take part in the annual Prudential Ride London event – a 100 mile ride from London – Surrey.
Following in the tyre tracks of the 2012 Olympic athletes, 50 cyclists from across the UK will be cycling to raise money to support families in rural Africa.
Among the fundraising peloton are father and son duo from New Maiden, Joel and Billy Brunger who signed up in January, with the aim of together raising £800 and riding a total of 136 miles on the day:
“We've raised lots of money in the past for the typical large UK charities, but this year we wanted to help raise money for another cause; something with a huge immediate impact and to help people help themselves.”
Each participant has pledged to raise a minimum of £300 sponsorship for Ripple Effect which could fund 2 bicycles, enabling extension workers to reach families living in remote communities, providing them with the seeds, tools and the training they need.
Peddling over the start line from 6am, Team Ripple Effect will come together at the finish line in Green Park, to celebrate completing the epic 100 mile course through London’s closed roads and Surrey.
