Light Mothers, or Mamans Lumières are community volunteers in Burundi who are passionate about fighting child hunger and malnutrition.

With a specialist kit and training from Ripple Effect, they visit families and provide support to other mothers and their young children. Every mother reached by a Light Mother passes on what they have learnt to their children, husbands, neighbours and friends creating a ripple effect in their local community.

Your gift is spent wherever the need is greatest across the countries we work in, making a huge difference to the lives of families living in some of the poorest regions of rural Africa.

I most enjoy training and teaching other mothers like me how to eat nutritious food by adding vegetables to their meals. If they can’t afford vegetables, we train them how to plant kitchen gardens around their homes. This helps them to get vegetables easily without going to far.
